The artwork featured students saluting and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. They also were invited to put a message on the back if they wished.
The six classes all received a coloring book with the same theme, along with a copy of the Pledge.
Completed artwork was given to Bobbie Samme for the LCpl. Eric A. Palmisano Care Package Project.
The Palmisano Project provides packages to active service members from community donations, as the cost to ship these are now $18.45 for a flat-rate priority mail package.
The project was created by Bobbie Samme and her husband, Herb, as a legacy for their son, LCpl. Eric Palmisano, who was killed in Iraq in 2006. When two care packages to Eric Palmisano were returned unopened, they decided the best way to honor their son was to send packages to help active military members.
More than 5,000 packages have been sent to troops serving overseas in combat zones since May 2006.
